For JEE, NEET, board exam, CUET and competitive exam coaching
DPDP compliance for coaching institutes
Most of your students are under 18, your growth runs on lead forms and calls, and your ads feature toppers’ photos and ranks. Each of those needs a clear consent under the DPDP Act. ConsentKit sets it up on your website, app and counselling desk.

Where the DPDP Act touches a coaching student
Coaching runs on leads, communication and results. Pick a stage to see what you collect and what needs a parent’s say.
What changes for your institute on 13 May 2027
The DPDP Act has no size threshold. A single-centre tuition class and a national chain carry the same duties.
Lead forms need age checks and noticesSections 5, 6 and 9
Most of your leads are minors. A parent’s verified consent is needed before marketing calls and messages to them.
An age check on every form, with parent verification before counsellors can call.
Topper ads need verified parental consentSection 9 and Rule 10
Using a student’s name, photo and rank in advertising is a separate purpose, and for under-18s the parent has to consent verifiably.
A results-and-ads consent your marketing team checks before each campaign, with proof on file.
No tracking or targeted ads at childrenSection 9(3)
Behavioural monitoring and targeted ads aimed at children are prohibited. That includes retargeting under-18 leads across the web.
Pixel and ad-tool controls that stay off for users flagged as under 18.
Withdrawal must be as easy as sign-upSection 6(4)
A parent who says “stop calling” on WhatsApp has withdrawn consent. Every counsellor and system must stop.
One-click withdrawal links, synced to your CRM and dialler.
Parents can ask for their dataSections 11 to 14
Parents and students can ask what you hold, correct it or have it erased, and you must answer in time.
A request portal with identity checks and deadline tracking.
Old lead lists must be deletedSection 8(7) and Rule 8
Leads who never enrolled and ex-students’ data should be deleted once the purpose ends.
Retention rules for leads and records, with a deletion log.
Does the education exemption cover coaching?
The Rules exempt educational institutions from parental consent for educational activities and child safety. Whether a coaching institute counts as an educational institution for this is not settled. Plan as if marketing, results in ads and partner sharing all need a parent’s verified consent.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. Confirm how it applies to you with your counsel.

Questions coaching institutes are asking
For the full picture, read our DPDP Act guide or compliance checklist.
Does the DPDP Act apply to small coaching centres?
Yes. There is no size threshold. If you hold students’ or parents’ personal data digitally, including on a phone or in WhatsApp, you are a data fiduciary.
Can we use toppers’ photos and ranks in our ads?
Only with consent for that purpose. For students under 18, that means a parent’s verifiable consent. Keep the proof and remove the ad if consent is withdrawn.
Can counsellors call leads who filled a form?
Yes, for the purpose they asked about, if the form gave a clear notice. For under-18 leads, get a parent’s verified consent first. Stop as soon as they withdraw.
Can we run retargeting ads to students?
Targeted advertising directed at children is prohibited under Section 9(3). Keep ad pixels and retargeting off for users you know or suspect are under 18.
How long can we keep lead data?
Only as long as the purpose needs it. A lead who did not enrol this season should be deleted after a reasonable follow-up period you define and publish.
